FGGC Bwari, one of the 104 Unity Colleges in Nigeria was established in 1984 as a girls only full boarding school, The college is located in Bwari Area Council Abuja FCT which is also home to the Nigerian Law School and the National Headquarters of Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

Bwari is about 30 minutes drive from the city centre

In her 25 years existence, FGGC Bwari has been at the forefront of girl-child education in Northern Nigeria providing excellent academic and moral guidance to a wide range of girls from diverse ethnic and cultural background.

Our vision and mission as encapsulated in our goal statements have been our driving force over the years and will continue to be for many years to come.

Brief History

Federal Govt. College Bwari

Federal Government Girls’ College Bwari, Abuja came into being on 15th January 1984 to meet the demand for the girl child education in FCT, the middle belt and the country at large. It was the 41st Unity College to be established in the country and the second in the Federal Capital Territory after Kwali. It is a boarding school which took off with 43 students, 8 teaching and 10 non teaching staff.
The College is situated in Bwari town, opposite F.C.D.A Staff Quarters along Law School road.

It has recorded 5 Principals since its inception, the first being Mrs A Abisogun-Alo. She was succeeded in May 1985 by Miss A.E. Uwanaka who was in turn succeeded by Hajiya H.I.E Mijah in January 1997. Next came Hajiya J.F Gold on 7th July 2003. Next came Mrs M.O. Okwulehie who came on board in September 2008 till 2012. The mantle of leadership rests in the hands of Mrs A.  Bamaiyi who came on board in September 2012.

Presently, the college has a student population of about 2,200 students manned by about 168 teaching and 115 non teaching staff. The college celebrated its silver jubilee on 15th February, 2009. The college recently held its 26th Inter-House Sports/Athletic Competition where Emerald House emerged overall best house.

  • Ensure teaching and learning go on undisrupted
  • Organize a re-orientation workshop for both academic and non-academic staff
  • Cleanliness of the premises, engage all hands to continue with the cleaning of the compund and bring to desired standard of environmental beauty and cleanliness
  • Provide regular water supply to students, staff and entire college
  • Network ICT centre and operationalize it
  • Maintain high level of discipline in the school
  • Ensure high standard of teaching and learning
  • Aim at students obtaining best results in FCT at the shortest time possible

Long Term Goals

  • Ensure highest standard of teaching and learning in the country
  • Supplement power supply with solar panel to critical areas/times eg Prep periods, clinic, classroom
  • Fully develop college masterplan
  • Aim at students obtaining the best results in the country.
  • Provide uninterrupted water supply (college boreholes to augment FCDA resources)
  • Computerize school operations and ensure all children are computer literate
  • Upgrade students performance and results to one of the best in the North-Central zone of the country

Sports

The teachers and students of Federal  Government Girls’ College, Bwari are sports loving people who even in early times devoted themselves on sporting activities.

Our students are actively involved in games and activity throughout the session. It could take place either internally or externally i.e. between the school and other schools. Our annual inter-house competition is usually held during the second term of the academic session. We are involved in the following sporting activities.

Club & Societies

In line with the Federal Ministry of Education policy on co-curricular activities, students are encouraged to belong to at least two clubs/societies in the school. In this way students are offered a chance not only to develop a healthy mind in a sound body but also to interact with students in other schools and thereby broaden their horizon.
